Montclair Film’s Summer Series features a free screening of “The Goonies” (1985) in Essex County Anderson Park. Seating begins at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at sundown. (Weather cancellations will be announced by 5 p.m.) Adapted by Chris Columbus from a Steven Spielberg story, “The Goonies” follows a group of misfit kids (including ones played by Josh Brolin and Sean Astin) as they search for buried treasure in a subterranean cavern. There they cross paths with Mama Fratelli and her outlaw brood. The kids befriend Fratelli’s hideously deformed but soft-hearted son, who comes to their rescue. The Spielberg influence is most pronounced in the film’s prologue and epilogue, when the viewer is advised that the film’s real villains are “evil land developers.” More info is at MontclairFilm.org.
