Two Montclair middle school students sitting on a bolder in Anderson Park

Friends of Anderson Park is inviting Montclair students to enter its third annual short-story contest. Winners receive $75, and (if the pandemic abates) a reception and reading at Watchung Booksellers. In previous years, the winners’ stories have also been published in The Montclair Local.

Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades at all Montclair schools – public, private, or home-schooled – are eligible.

These are the requirements: Anderson Park must feature into the story. Stories may be in any genre, 500-2,500 words, and must observe the same guidelines in subject matter and language that would apply in school. Entries should be typed and double-spaced, with numbered pages. The author’s name, grade, school, phone number and email should be on every page. Deadline for submission is midnight on Feb. 13, 2021. Submit via email to andersonparkstory@gmail.com. You should receive email confirmation of receipt within two days.

Address any queries to andersonparkstory@gmail.com or Ann Evans at (973) 495-0338. Information about the park is at FriendsOfAndersonPark.com.
